Now that we have some exposition for Camellia, I understand what the nine-tailed Fury beastman leader meant when he said he wanted all his tails back. He/she has been “blessing” his elite leaders with a tail (which he gets back when they die – the bear diead to Elric, and they killed the birdman themselves) that carries some of its power.

That ugly fox is the East General/Camellia’s evil side. The tail that it is still missing that a Melvinger took must be the goddess Camellia that was separated from the evil persona. Either it’s a transformation art, or the evil persona possessed a beastman to survive.
