Wow, ‘get a safe’. These people are really dumb.
The best and obvious solution is to simply divide up the plunder with all members present after each quest. Go to the market place together and sell the loot with all members present. If they find coin on their expedition, they can divide it up then and there. The only coin they would have to keep track of is the petty cash, so the next person can get that odd, one bronze coin next time.
If a group purchase is necessary, then all should be expected to bring the required coin when necessary.
Admittedly this would be somewhat cumbersome, but at least there would be no central member handling the coin. Eliminating all the distrust that comes with that kind of setup.
Everyone would be responsible for their own provisions and living expenses, which may be difficult for some to manage. At lest it would tell everyone who can’t pull their own weight or will be a problem in the near future.
In an instance where someone is really bad at managing their finances, they can personally assign a member (or other 3ed party) they personally trust to manage their finances. This will keep the the hands in the cookie jar to the bare minimum.

Can’t the girl with the safe and the guy with the key just collude and scam the two others? But otherwise nice premise!
