I always dislike it in these stories when the MC can take on a professional adult combatant and win but then gets completely out classed by a student.
I feel like it could have worked in this particular instance if he didn’t realize he had muscle memory until sometime after the fight, but its introduction before the fight destroyed the power-scaling in a way that doesn’t feel believable.
