You guys are reading too much into it.
The author is putting out the question of “were we brought together by our own will…?” through Sera’s inner monologue as a plot device.
For that is not some philosophical conundrum but merely the conflict within oneself when faced with a great revelation or encounter that forces the change in their viewpoint.
What is “own will” in the end?
If it was fated for them to come together, they would have come one way or the other.
And Ildoren and Rairan are basically like forces of nature, it is something like magnetism or gravity. If they didn’t find Veor or Sera they would’ve found another vessel sooner or later.
In the end our huge cast of characters will naturally remind Sera of the veracity of her own feelings and knock sense into her feelings of self-doubt.
Additionally we already have this premise of reincarnation with Schiff. And Sera basically doesnt even have any conflicting memories of Ildoren’s own memovies stressing her out like it did to Schiff where she was opposed to the idea of romance, mating and marriage etc. due to that other guy’s memories.
Veor is like the sixth owner of the armor, but Ildoren chose Sera because her wish to go where “big sis” led to the same place where Ildoren’s mate was in the form of Veor’s armor, plus it was the place Ildoren originally belonged to as well.
These are specially crafted circumstances for the protagonists of the story.
If anyone has read or watched InuYasha then they’d know this similar setting. Kagome’s feeling for Inuyasha are her own, even if they stem from Kikyou , and in her case it was a very straightforward reincarnation.
Sera did not drown, nor was she replaced with Ildoren possessing Sera’s body. Such headcanons simply have no room to exist when it has been explicitly stated that she was brought back from the brink of death.
It’s the same premise of Malcius originally confused seeing herself as a giant dragon hunting in the woods and a’ll that.Or else Malcius is not Malcius anymore? That’s nonsense.
I love this. While there is this existential issue in her mind, she isn’t doubting that she is in love, that her feelings are genuine. She has accepted what she is, but says I am living this life as Sera, and she isn’t doubting what she feels. Now she just has to accept her homeland is using her previous corpse as a weapon, that is going to be the weird part.
Why does it matter who or what had a hand in them getting together? They’re together now, that’s all that should matter regarding the subject to her
Spoiler for the next few chapters –
Sera stumbles upon a piece of Ildoren’s scale.
Kimaki going crazy trying to figure how to build something using the scale.
Sera starts using it like a shield.
Dragon spirit shows up from within the scale, everyone including Veor is paralyzed, Veor’s arnor refuses to move.
A doppelganger (yes a real physical doppelganger) manifests itself from the scale and overwhelms Sera and incapacitates her, Veor snaps, calls upon his dragon arnor’s true strength, breaks free, attacks the doppelganger, the scene ends there right as Veor’s attack is about to land.
Sera wakes up, the doppelganger hasn’t disappeared. Funny stuff happens. Arguments start between the two Sera, and Veor is sandwiched between them.
Veor’s slits on his cheeks have opened halfway.
Next morning Veor wakes up besides a naked Sera (doppelganger), real Sera breaks down the front door as the doppelganger Sera starts kissing Veor aggressively.
Cersei is facing double trouble in the kitchen.
Wysteresia arrives & hugs both Seras, reassures the real Sera, shares some heavy news.
