My problem here is : Why Napoleon’s horse is like this? Why? 
The doctor shouldn’t feel bad, the MC would be a malpractice nightmare if he wasn’t blanketed in plot armour and living in that equivalent time period.
For anyone who is wondering, it is the Epidemic typhus, or Typhus fever, that is caused by infected fleas. Napoleon troops died by tens of thousands due to of this disease when they retreat from Russia.
