Well, as usual – OP MC is stupid, otherwise how would you make thrilling moments?
I learned from youtube that axes are weapons that require a lot of finesse. 
These ogres have surprisingly good accuracy and hand speed to land so many blows on the MC’s sword with the bladed part of the axe. 
Meanwhile, the MC has poor swordsmanship to not avoid clashing against the strongest part of the axe with his sword and poorly chose to never attack the exposed hands that are holding the axes.

I’m honestly surprised he didn’t train the ability Chronos gave to him. I get he didn’t know at the time, but it just shocks me he didn’t figure out how to use anti-magic (I’m honestly guessing it is something like anti-magic), in secret for the past 8 months he’s been in the dojo.
