Heinz is an idiot. He feels bad about killing Van’s mom, but since he’s a standard naive hero type, he easily falls for propaganda and makes it his life’s goal to kill him. Not that it matters, he’s still kill-on-sight as far as Van is concerned anyway. The only reason Heinz ends up surviving so long is his protagonist-level luck.
