He could also just fake evidence that he left the city; use the ring or dreadfiend to dress up as him somewhere, make some “he was here” evidence, maybe a part time job to get money, then get on a carriage that leaves the city. Might be easier to fake the death too like attacked by monsters/animals with only bits left behind.
He has a transformation ring, A dreadfiend that can transform, and a vampire that can cast transformation magic. He could totally fake his other identity by having someone else transform into it.
Looks like the ‘win win’ situation, is to get the shit kicked out of him to the point of being nearly dead… and then use her ‘secret weapon’ to win. Then he’ll be able to celebrate in hospital.

I can see a few way to defeat a stronger opponent but none of them are clean….
