Well the writing broke it for me.
Like homeopathy “the water remembers”, does it remember the poo?
Things have memory?
Ok, fine if you restore the memories your restore all the damage.
Just call it mend, keep the handwavium and keep the brain noise to yourself.
Yes there are tropes but it keeps you within the guardrails enough you don’t have to reinvent the wheel and end up with an octagon shaped hell-spawn.

If the reader loathes tropes they can go find that one writer who crafted his whole magic system and has 2,495 chapters on it, 12,000 chapters on mana, 200,000 on spells, 4.25*10^20th chapters on circles, 300 pages of maps, a spreadsheet for the system that runs 100megabytes with 500,000 bytes of code to calculate it all. The story is a mix of appealing, bizarre brain noise, info dump and 300 chapters in a torture arc but…sunken investment fallacy…
