Yay! He has the back shield like achilles or turtle style hidden under his cloak! 
For extra back armor and To protect from backstabs and unseen rear attacks…
MUDs used to have that option alot before MMO’s were made by non gamer/nerds/historians 
who were ignorant and only programmed the basic gear…
Could even do a build like main and off hand both have shields, and back… so you can be a pure tank plus still melee dmg and bash. 
Or u get something stupid like dungeons and dragons where a spear is ONLY a 2hand weapon… 
Where for thousands of years… humans would use spear 1 hand, with a shield, and have a sword attached to the back of the shield for when enemy gets in melee range (past spear which can also be thrown)
Though there are 20 foot long 2 hand spears irl…
