At this point he doesn’t actually need to know what it’s properties are… only that he’s not walking out with a piece of crap or a cursed item. He can either trust to luck to find out on his own… or wait until he just happens to find a spare god laying around to pay the question fee…
Don’t know about this world. But in D&D some items will just kill any user if they are not powerful enough.
