I love how ruthless Alan is. He will kill the dragon to both test his might and to gain status as a noble in order to navigate the upper echelons of society. It couldn’t be any other way. He would spoil the keenness of his mind by wallowing in sentimentality. He is the perfect imperial naval officer. He doesn’t pretend to consider the situation through the eyes of the dragon, or mind he will disrupt the existing social, legal, and gubernatorial order. Democracy? Human rights? No way. I need to bring this planet under my control to prepare it for war against the intergalactic space bugs. I will bring this planet into the empire by force if necessary. I will be king of this planet, and my male heirs begotten from my harem will rule forever for the planet’s and it’s peoples’ own good. Amazing. There’s no way this could have been written in the West. It’s way too awesome. Heck the empire is the good guys in this story. What a refreshing take on sci-fi! 5 Stars.

Why is the first instinct kill and murder? Why is it never communicate and tame?
Taming or controlling a dragon would do FAR more to raise his status than merely killing the dragon.
ALSO, such powerful allies would be HUGE military assets against the bugs.
Such shallowness. =(
