Not sure why author is having her monologue about the brutal competition between the soldiers to get to serve under the ‘best’ lord, how they’re the cream of the crop, etc. and yet what you end up drawing are babyfaced squirts that project not even a shred of experience, grit or hardness. But you do draw all that in the soldiers under Van’s command which she is deriding as the slackers…

As a commander, yes. But you’re already losing focus. You were going to prove to the world that Galda, or i.o.w. people without magic, have a predetermined role which they can’t escape from. Even Galdas, among themselves, will have commanders to lead their fellow Galdas. Doesn’t really tell you much about how effective that commander is against magic beasts.
