The past is moot, nothing more than ways to learn to not repeat the horrors of devouring the individual for the grater good.
That becomes much easier when resources can be shipped regionally with ease. It reduces the need for raiding and war. On the flip side it allows for more centralization of power and national identity, which can turn whole populations into a war machine, but there again, it makes it more important to protect the will of the individual.
Because protecting the will of all individuals is sacred, its the only viable greater good.

Oof finding out they’ve been persecuting the race of the one person that stood ten toes against the emissary would break this world in half very good twist on the tale.
