It really feels like the author press the fast forward button to skip the “meanwhile”
Man, since the break we are really jumping from one scenario to the next without any context where it comes from. The story feels choppy and the characters have also become much more flat and their conversations and emotions extremely simplistic. The “cunning” banker reveals his true intentions and emotions immediately in the conversation and gets visibly shocked when his simple plan is guessed. Story immediately bounces to the next scene before even answering why they would profit from the wars. Jacqueline seems to have not a single working braincell and does the lord. Royal guard conveniently decides that this is the moment they dont care anymore. The king also commits suicide out of nowhere and reveals some other entity out of nowhere. Which must be one of the most stupid ways I’ve ever seen a new enemy be introduced out of nowhere. Hope the following chapters will be better otherwise I’m not sure how much longer I can hold this out.
Its not the MC who killed the king, the king really killed himself out of guilt/regret. The empire is the one who forced the king to be reckless/foolish. Redford is part of the alliance which was created to give the smaller kingdoms a better chance against the empire. This was mentioned by the count when he borrowed the money. The empire wants to weaken the alliance because it diminishes the empire’s power.
