Snippy he may be, it’s a bit much to be calling that merchant “evil” off the bat. As a businessman, of course he’s going to be mindful of his investments and profits. Non-farmers/horticulturists shouldn’t poke their nose into the farming process though. He’s just being a distraction at this point.
MC also forgets, his current body is still young, so many won’t take him very seriously. And that he’s the only one who believes that [Villager] is as strong as he thinks. He has yet to present the proof of his theory to anyone.

A merchant should know better than to antagonize the nobility of a fiefdom.
He should also be able to recognize the nobility on sight, even their children.
