I hate their portrayal of the religious group of the magic community.
when being put against something that you consider heretical and you are asked to explain why you hate it, you don’t say : “it goes against my faith, it’s heresy”.
you could say however :
“this invention is putting the spirits into slavery. no mortal should be allowed to toy with the spirits and their will. magicology is a field who’s only purpose is to go against the spirits will and enslaving them. how can in good conscience suppport its ideas.
every member of the royal family should be able to see the weight the spirits have to bear to follow this crazy idea !”

If her theories* defy all understanding, but work. Maybe your understandings are wrong.
They are like creationists working backwards from a drawn conclusion (as outlined in the bible), to the observation. And dismissing everything that doesn’t fit the conclusion (cherry picking).
While MC is like scientists, where the results of experiments bring forth the conclusion. And is updated if it’s lacking.
It works, because it brought forth her inventions. Which are undeniably working.
