Since I read the novel, I won’t spoil much but I will clarify: the Lost World is a world where advanced civilizations fell since the dissappearnce of previous gods, hence the ruins and other leftovers, one can assume the waterwheel powers the golem, later in the series, it is known that Zaol is consider a founder of architecture and math, hence she was invited to survey the project
In reality that would be a very bad idea. There are too many factors to consider, and this plan just wouldn’t work.
You are losing a lot of torque for the grindstone, you’re wasting a full generator on the bellows, you’re using wood for the hammer when you need a lot of inertia momentum, and you’re not even connecting the fourth axis?

Ah yes… a cheat like ‘great luck of a demon’ is in effect… 
It’s crazy someone put a waterwheel there and didn’t think of putting another in all these years since the founding of the nation
that’s some technological revolution for ya 
One water wheel can ‘power’ mostly all that by itself. Waterwheels create hella torque and most of the time one wheel powered 4+ grainmills and maybe a couple other things just by itself (depending on how powerful the stream, and the size of the wheel) This may put extra strain on break points, but it got the job done. Water wheels did alot even when simple electricity was a thing.
They are underusing the wheel! Thats okay though, I imagine its simpler for artist to draw a bit less. etc etc. I just thought that was cool. Yeah i know I am special, :/D
I also wonder what else they introduce later…
