See, Nebula is offering freedom in the form of an aligned interest. If your interests align, technically nobody is using anybody. Sure there is a bit of manipulation to get the mages to his side but if they know they are free to go against the god’s will then they will likely be more willing to recognize that side.

I like what Night sky is doing too. He wants them to survive , not because they will be his , but the next generation of mages will.
