I feel like this was written by a researcher that has researched the common nuptial practices of nomadic tribes. Since they move around a lot the young boys AND girls are often promised to each other between 2-5 years old but nothing further happens until it is REASONABLE–that is a short time after puberty.

Nomads may not even really know numerically how old each person is. There is also a FAR HIGHER survival rate of mother through childbirth as long as the mother is around 17 years or less. There is no formal education, no idiot to tell you that 18 years old is a magic number and no formal medical care. What exactly are you waiting for?

An decent age difference between husband and wife is often hugely beneficial to wife and her family as he is likely to be more established and a better, more experienced hunter.

And a 16 year old in those cultures is often more skilled as a partner, more ready and mature than a 34 year old in a culture focused on high education and employment—-not to mention the are supported by grandma, mom and 27 aunties plus other family.
