Apologies but I am not sure it’s mumzy and dadzy who committed suicide or some random strangers. I’m assuming he’s some sort of fruit of some disgusting ancestors loins.
Woman you don’t take his family filth on yourself. Was it mommy that took a leap of faith from the cliff and daddy that butchered a bunch of people because of it? Did daddy even ask what happened? He got killed for his villainy and the people still hate the family and the current duke because the people were and are still blamed for her death.
The current duke’s incompetence means he should yield the holding back to the crown or make it wholly independent and walk the hell away and stay out of it.
That his greed, cowardice and/or incompetence prevents him from doing that is on him.
It’s either that or suck it up, drive off the disrespectful peasants back to their damned island or somewhere else leaving the dukedom wide open for cheerful pioneers to come cleanse the stench from it. All happy and frolicking in the sun like the good folk loyal peasants are. UMMHMMM yea.
Using a kind woman to do what is his job is as disgusting as his serial killer daddy.
