Any serious association would disqualify violent thugs to be their instructors/ testers.

So, he didnt even broke an arm to the guy who threatened to destroy him as adventurer or even kill? It only means that he left the guy, who absolutly did before and will do something similar to that to other people and just didnt want to stop that (making our MC neutral or outright evil) and that dude will definitely will be a problem later (making our MC stupid or outright retarded).
