With how many times he’s been burned by the royal family and the civilians who still buy the tripe they and the other heroes smeared him with, it’s only natural that he’d be slow to trust, and even slower to do so implicitly. Melty and the soldiers do deserve better, but it’ll probably be a good long while before he’s able to let down his guard again. It’ll be nice to see the other kingdoms in any case, their bullshittery is gonna backfire methinks.
