That “bow gun” is missing the string pulling mechanism (example A), but it does have the stirrup (example B)… so I have no idea, how the string will be pulled back quickly enough, so that you won’t be overwhelmed by enemies in such a tight space.
Also it looks too under-powered. If the orcs have thick skins, that might be an actual reason to get close and personal with them.
Still… I would rather use one with revolving cylinder (which you reload before the battle, like you do with a revolver) and a quick-return mechanism, where you can “crank the string back” without a pulley at the end, which would also need the stirrup (see example C). Drawing for 5 seconds is much better than pulling it for 10 and aiming at the ground… f*ck, if they have so advanced technology, which can create “train cars”, then they could engineer exploding bolts and automate the quick-return mechanism, basically creating a bolt firing mini-hand cannon…
