It’s so nice having a competent mc that gets stronger when they get the chance unfortunately I’ve seen so many mc’s that have a chance to get stronger and for either no or at least a really bad reason don’t use it at all then get surprised when an enemy is stronger than them (usually leading to the death or near death of an ally)
