In the real world, “missing” has no real time limit. It’s just any reasonable suspicion that something untoward has happened to that person, and they cannot be currently found using any reasonably achievable methods(i.e. you can’t find them unless you do an extensive carpet search). Sometimes that’s 5 minutes of “oh im just going to take out the trash” and then they’re gone. Sometimes that’s just 1 hour of “oh I’ll just take a short walk”. It doesn’t matter. But if it doesn’t feel right, if it doesn’t seem like something they would do and you can’t find them, they’re missing, and you need to go look asap. The possible places where they could be only increases with time – the sooner you start looking, the sooner you find them.
If you don’t believe me, look up “Missing persons report time requirement”. Copy and paste that into the search bar. The most likely first search result will be a government pdf talking about your options – read it. It will be very helpful in removing any misconceptions that may delay or hamper the finding of the missing person.
