for those wondering why he didn’t use his windstep thing earlier my guess is this
its not strong enough. its not just his weight but his momentum that it would need to support so think of it as jumping down from several feet onto a small wooden chair. There’s a good chance the chair simply breaks. in addition, even if it would hold he still has the problem of it not being soft. if it stops you completely it still hurts you because its no different than the ground in that case.
