That man that got stabbed in the back, I can only imagine him being the one controlling the dragon. Nothing else makes senses besides that and a bored artist looking to fill space.

He lied about letting them go just to have his friend kill them off. Despicable. The author must think this is really clever, but that’s just the behavior of a cowardly snake.
