I guess a grave can be used as a pitfall trap. wonder how deep that one was, since it took them a while to hit the bottom.

From what I counted, there were 18 in the group photo of the goblins last chapter + the 3 scouts and the 2 that die while ambushing. And, since the number shown this chapter doesn’t exceed 12, I will assume that there was only a total of 23 goblins that managed to massacre his village in his past life.
Seems like he could’ve just claimed he saw a stray goblin or 3, looking around in the forest, to his parents or village chief the day before the attack. They should’ve been able to prepare some makeshift walls and weapons, maybe while sending a message for help. If the blade that cut him was poisoned, he could’ve died right there.
