This is Tsubame-gaeshi, the path of the swallow in flight. Consisting of a down cut then an up cut, it is claimed to be Sasaki Kojiro’s signature move. It’s really cool to see the metaphor of a wave going onto the beach and leaving it in the opposite motion being the inspiration for this reciprocal cut.
Also in the novel Kojiro is claimed to have relied upon this attack and then lost immediately after using it. He finished the technique but missed by a millimeter, eating a Helm Breaker (jumping downward cut, see Samurai X’s Dragon hammer cut) and losing instantly.
