Lol, he was at one of the strongest people there was (seemingly), seeing as he was deteriorating. Who would be left to protect his son? It wasn’t about keeping his name clean it was about giving his son a chance to survive. As for not wanting his son to be an adventurer i’d assume that’s to do with the politics and bullshit he’d have to deal with (same reason why manager hates everything, but he doesn’t have the power to change it) so he probably just wanted his son to live a good life of his own choosing(as most good parents hope). Expectedly, mistakes were made but clearly his dad wasn’t perfect, no one is.
