Ok, I got a theory, the sister doesnt really want attention/is needy, its actually MC, his way of dealing with his parents death is by taking the role of the parent and taking care of his sister, he doesnt notice it but hes the one relying on her. She realizes this and plays along, even asking for help with school even though she doesnt need it, not because she wants attention, but because she knows her brother needs her to need him, if that makes sense
