The wizard has an eyepatch, but everyone in that kingdom, which just happens to be near by, is either a ghost or has some sort of magic eye.
he has never seen the outside world and grew up in isolation.
I am starting to think that kingdom was never real, or was some sort of eugenics project by that wizard, hence the karma for destroying it.
There is a very sinister vibe in this series. It’s the worst kind of sugary darkness.

That is the concept that is hinted at, with the illusions, i think. There is some heavy spiritualism here. Took me a 2nd read to catch on but it may be above my head.
