The fact that they had their god chained down there seems less like a cruel curse to me and more like a plan to manufacture that right curse for the god. That god is now free, if it survived the disaster that hit the country, as little apprehension knew of the trespasser. A very interesting fact, probably from when she was sneaking in, or it could be a connection through another way.
