As he said in the past the only thing in his eyes were his sword. And we have already seen how Anna and the girl he gave the mecha to die. So in his past life he was fully dedicated to the sword. Of course he has no experience with women.
I dont think I’d call him dense over this. yes, its obvious to us, but to him he’s literally only seen her a handful of times now. so this would definitely be confusing. all he could reasonably have at this point is a suspicion that she might like him, and it could just be as a friend for all he knows.
