The candy heals every second, but the blood devourer deals damage every seconds. As long as the big attack hits after a heal proc and before a damage proc, he should be able to use Endurance.
So maybe by eating a lot of candy with a small time difference in between, he could increase the chance that the big damage happens after a heal but before a damage proc. I think. ?

I also eat in boss fights, mostly in Skyrim though
