The author is pretty naive thinking an unreasonable person faced with the truth will suddenly become reasonable, in reality Haze is more likely to conclude locking you up wasn’t enough and you need to die.

So the presence or absence of one member of a party you met in passing, far from your homeland…is the cause of your home’s troubles. A member who has never met you, much less have any reason to hold a grudge against an Elf with no connection to his exile, until he arrived on your front yard with your baby sister.
