I like this story, but I feel the script needs some tweaking.
Thus far, the stupid subordinate has been playing a straw-man and sucking up every villain-ball trope to justify his timely demise at the hands of the zombies, so the author doesn’t taint the protagonist’s morality/hero state.
Like, for instance, instead of having the stupid subordinate straight up glorify the apocalypse, sell us harder on the pressures he felt pre-apocalypse. Sell us on the equality and camaraderie he purportedly feels while dealing with zombies that he didn’t before.
