So from my short research this seems to be a translation issue.
TLDR: Korean is a weird language, no gendered words but one, but women in Korea ‘speak’ differently.
Long: Korean is unlike European languages as well as the one you are reading, it doesn’t have gendered words when you refer to people and has one when speaking in third person, but according to 3 theories women speak differently, why? The three theories tell us specific reasons but as Korean society is complex it is hard to pinpoint exactly why.
The first theory is that women lack power, that is it, it makes sense coming from Korea but it is insane in most other places.
The second theory is that male speech is default and the other way is inferior women words.
The third and final theory is that women and men have completely different upbringings, as is expected from a patriarchal society.
So it is likely the person was speaking in and unorthodox way meaning the translators didn’t translate pronouns correctly. I don’t know why
they just didn’t use gender neutral pronouns.
