wow, this actually explained why the hero has not been found after killing the demon king, he was returned to his original world because already succeeded in what he was summoned for so now our MC needs to find out what is his actual goal in that world.
What if this turns out to be something like WH40K or the MCU and there are multiple games, novels, or stories that have canonical overlaps, and MC’s character features in multiple ones? Or maybe it’s a series like ATLA and MC possessed the in-universe equivalent of this guy?
I am going to take a shot in the dark here. My guess is he’s neither a protagonist nor a villain but an “observer”. After all of his reviews/criticism, he’s been “put” into this world to “fix” something.
Maybe his main mission is something along the lines of stopping other transmigrators from disrupting the story. It could be that he’s still here because the hero succeeded in his story, while ivan was supposed to stop him/let the demons win? We all expect the good guys and the heroes to win; but now we have a story where the bad guy is supposed to win against all odds and logic of “manga universe” 
Or, that’s just too far out and we’ll do something cliche instead.
