OK, so this makes a lot of sense. Due to his incredible abilities, the King told the prince to take him along. The prince is pompous and stupid forcing Alek to focus 100% on simply keeping him alive, meaning he couldn’t do anything else. From the perspective of the prince, who knows nothing, he was useless, but yea… This isn’t the “I’m useless” trope, thank god, it’s more of the Ossan Newbie who waited til he was 32 to join an adventuring party.
