40 copper for a massage is a major rip off. The daily wage of an able bodied and somewhat skilled laborer or that of a soldier on campaign was at most 10 coppers a day (half a silver). And that money could feed a family for a day with a few coppers left over.
And prostitution had been legal in the middle ages with prices being low compared to these days – maybe a few coppers per go.
