wouldnt it make more sense for him to either go the magician (necromancer or conjurer /illusionist route?)
aka fight using summoned minions while hiding himself.
have beaten some campaigns in D&D without ever having the characters of the part engage in combat themselves… just pure hiding/invis/run away(kiting) while summoned beasts/minions/charmed enemies/familiars do all the fighting….
