yah if this is D&D, slimes aren’t a weak easy starter mob, but an extremely deadly enemy. i think it was baldurs gate books, entire millitia or merchants/ parties being wiped out by them.

If he does not explain his 1 HP situation after this incident; he is a moron.
It made sense before this, since it is a major weakness easily exploited, but now the cat is out of the bag. Even if he has to lie about why he has only 1 HP or that he does have only 1 HP. But he is his own liability if he does not explain his major flaw in some manner.
