By accepting this position it becomes even more easy to let ‘the story’ play out. You already know there are other players. If not meddling with the story is your goal, you would need authority to put a stop to fellow players that do want to change the story.

What a stupid reason to decline. Akagi is the hero of the story because players are controlling him. This is different. He should become the hero of the story, take charge of the class and the story will progress just fine.
