I’m sorry, when half the soldiers are injured or dead, armies will retreat? Oh yeah sure, wars really work like that. Soldiers aren’t pointlessly sent into meat-grinders until they die in insane numbers, forced to fight and die even when it’s pointless, or their numbers dwindle ridiculously low.
And if you have to wait until half the soldiers are dead before retreating, that’s still an unbelievable number of dead soldiers. Yosano would prefer that all those people die first so the rest can leave instead of keeping most of the army alive continuously, would she? More soldiers would be dead, but maybe the superiors would eventually let the rest retreat, right? Maybe …Except if they retreated they’d just be moved to another battle anyway in a war.
Soldiers don’t get to “choose to lose.” Ever. That’s just self-serving sophistry.
Btw: she’s doing exactly the same thing for the Detective Agency that she did in the army. Considering how much they use her ability and depend on it, it kind of makes her experience in the military look…unrealistic? Dramatically convenient?
