Apparently, there’s actually a condition where people can’t distinguish left from right. Gerstmann syndrome refers to a set of symptoms that occur when the parietal lobe, the upper part of the brain, is damaged. Symptoms caused by parietal lobe damage include difficulty with calculations, agraphia (inability to write), finger agnosia (inability to recognize fingers), and inability to distinguish left from right.
