I think there’s a couple of flags in the story, and Helen shows up… must be the start of a new adventure, maybe even a journey.

Arrows are chances to hit the prey. Arrows replenished after MC said he wasn’t going anywhere meant more chances to make him realize her feelings. Mrakoplasch is right IMHO just be straight with him, but emotionally stunted story telling.
