Different World Slow Life Begun at the Smithy - Chapter 4.1
Comments for chapter "Chapter 4.1"
If the alloy is good, all he is doing is pouring a slug. After that, tempering, edge and other fine works to make it a viable and durable sword will need be done. The quality and durability will be good enough for an armsman or a footsoldier to wield without fear of self-destruction. So…likely better quality that most of the kit found in that world. But still inferior to a special made, high alloy forged blade custom to order.
Chapter 4.1 5/10
You know I just thought of something. In some cultures when you give a knife to someone. It is like giving an engagement ring. Though if he told that to Samia, I bet she would except without hesitation.
Gotta love all the smartasses in the comments smirking about how a proper sword isn’t cast into a mold while showing how little attention they’re paying to the story. He’s trying to make them lower grade/worse on purpose, the previous chapters were all about how he forged them and they were too good despite him winging it because of the skills he was gifted from the god, it even says in this very chapter that the cast swords satisfy his plan to make low grade items.
If he is using iron, then he is mass producing in the pre-industrial age, which Evil_Wolf who replied to Georgio, tells exactly why swords are not made that way. The other reason that swords where not made this way much unless on the cheap and nasty was it you ever took an aluminium base ball bat and smack as hard as you can against a steel pole, then see how your arms feel. This writer is trying to be technical but not over do it due to details however this is just muddling up their story, they should have just reduced the details and assigned it more to his magical cheat ability.
I wouldn’t be surprised if the arrow ended up 10 meters underground.
I think the idea of ‘forging’ a sword is that you heat the metal to the point it can be worked and then beat it into the required shape. Why would you heat it to a much higher temperature to cast a sword from molten metal ?
considering his current customer base is 100% city guards he might want to consider spears or short swords instead to match their needs. although i guess the guards vet their main weapons from the city and only the knifes are personal…

This is fun BUT you DONT make a sword by pouring MOLTEN STEEL (my God, the temperatures) into a mold. Still fun, but that’s not how it works boys.
