Ok, I have some trouble with the storyline here.
The former lord did something that resulted in a reparation payment that indebted the whole territory. But he isn’t aware. Somehow he got money out of it, and lives the luxury (?) life in the “dettached building”.
How? Isn’t the poor food an indication? If he got better food, aren’t the servants complaining?
If he isn’t there (maybe he actually is living the highlife in the capital) where does the money come from? The money he acquired won’t last forever after all, especially if spend frivolously.
